ActewAGL Natural and Cultural Heritage Information Management System
Overview
The ActewAGL NCHIMS was developed by ESS to provide the following benefits:
- To define reporting and data standards for information produced by natural and cultural heritage consultants.
- Provide a set of standards that define the data that shall be captured and submitted by heritage consultant
- Provide a set of standards that defines how existing heritage documentation shall be transformed and integrated
- Data collected from new heritage studies shall be supplied to the BWA heritage team in the standard format.
- Consultants shalll access the NCHIMS online to view and submit heritage data and reports.
- Locations of heritage sites, their significance ratings and all other associated reports, documentation and multimedia shall be stored centrally
- A GIS map layer of heritage sites along with their significance ratings at each site will potentially be exported into the existing ActewAGL GIS.
- A system that shall be implemented with minimal impact on existing systems and infrastructure within ActewAGL.
- Reports and other heritage documentation shall be accessed from the system by selecting a heritage area/site from a map or by searching for any associated document metadata.
- Reports, photographs, video and other multimedia content shall be accessed from a central system
- External user groups (including both Indigenous groups and heritage consultants) may be given online access to the information held within these systems
NCHIMS Characteristics
- a secure system for a wide range of approved users to record, store and display data of various types including map data, documents, photos, videos, diagrams, site inspection and incident reports etc;
- a mapping interface that permits spatial features (e.g. sites, areas, tracks) to be entered (or imported) into the system;
- storage of data items that do not relate to a particular location and the recording of non-spatial collections;
- ability for users to enter data relating to the maintenance or condition of natural and cultural heritage sites and features for management purposes; and
- a range of tools for storing, searching and reporting on natural and cultural heritage related information;
- storage of culturally significant data including the location and characteristics of Indigenous and European heritage sites, tracks and areas, oral histories and other material that demonstrates the significance of the affected landscape; and
- running and maintenance of the system.
